ADVISORY PROGRAM

Social Emotional Learning

We want our OSC Geckos to become happy and fulfilled adults, honouring our commitment to courage, curiosity and compassion. Our advisory programme gives us the time and space to focus on this development by building relationships through an understanding of ourselves and others. Using the internationally recognised CASEL framework as a guide, we aim to build our students’ self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making.

DEIJ / Belonging / Anti-racism

In order to grow we believe our OSC Geckos must both reflect on their own identities and cultures, and learn about perspectives beyond their own. In our advisory class we build self-awareness and self confidence as we work toward becoming agents of positive social change. To do this, we explore how we see others and how others see us, learning to recognize and question our own implicit biases as we explore how such biases play out in the world around us. In order to build truly inclusive communities which elevate marginalised voices, we recognize that we must explore different forms of oppression and actively promote anti-racist and anti-colonialist perpectives.

Comprehensive Sexuality Education

“Comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) is a curriculum-based process of teaching and learning about the cognitive, emotional, physical, and social aspects of sexuality” (UNESCO) As young learners, our OSC geckos are constantly changing. To help them navigate these demanding, confusing and complex changes, we have a curriculum allowing us to create open and inclusive research and discussion on age-appropriate issues. We follow a comprehensive curriculum from the Advocates for Youth which focuses on exploring our rights, respect and responsibilities.
