To start our unit our students closely observed the teacher put her finger in a solution of water and salt and very quickly take it out. First insert little finger. taste fore finger. Students observe closely and give comments. Then they try it themselves.( This activity helps children understand that as scientists, it is important to of closely observing experiments when they are done.)
Afterwards students were given time to explore balloons, ice on a plate, soap and a cheese grater, jello, corn flour, oil, liquids, food colouring etc. . They wrote down what they discovered and what they wondered about in groups. Students generate their own questions about solids, liquids and gases. In the end we watched a video” Solids, Liquids and Gases on Brainpop.
