Monday

  • Math: Complete the following word problems that involve division. Try and work them out in three different ways – chunking, long division and short division.
  1. For Ms. Sandy’s wedding, flowers are arranged into vases in bunches of 8 flowers in each vase. How many vases would be needed to arrange 376 flowers?
  2. A train carriage can seat 24 passengers. How many carriages would be needed for all of OSC’s 491 students and 67 teachers?

Tuesday

  • Read at least 20 minutes and record it on the class reading log.
  • Learn Spellings and times tables. Complete spelling activity:
  • Math – The following recipe for a Microwave Chocolate cake serves 7 people. Please rewrite the ingredients accurately so that all 39 students of Grade 5 and the three teachers can all have a share.
1 cup flour 2 eggs 1 cup sugar 2 and a half tsp oil
40ml cocoa Half tsp salt 1 tsp vanilla 2 and a half tsp baking powder
1 cup warm water

 

Microwave on high, for 10 minutes.

  • LA Task: When comparing two objects, we add the suffix –er or the word “more”. When comparing more than two objects, we use the suffix –est or the word “most”. (Usually words with three syllables or more use “more” or “most”.)

 

Eg. Daisy is taller than Mali, but Kiara is the tallest child in the class.

Mr. Milburn’s chair is more comfortable than Ms. Sandy’s chair, but Mrs. Dahlan’s chair is the most comfortable of them all.

 

Rewrite these sentences, filling in the correct form of the word in brackets, into the blanks. Be careful to spell the new word correctly.

Wednesday

  • Learn spellings and practice times tables.
  • Login to IXL and complete the following practice tests – Search for Ratios and Rates
  • Q1. Determine the ratio – work for 20 minutes only
  • Q4. Write an equivalent ratio – work for 20 minutes only
  • Dinner discussion – Discuss the two visits we had by the school doctor and counsellors. Share some of the new information you learned from those sessions.

 Thursday

  • Read at least 20 minutes and record it on the class reading log.

  • Q2. Ratio word problems – work for 20 minutes only
