Welcome to Grade 1!
Here in 1K we’ve been doing a lot of activities to get to know each other and to get to know the Grade 1 Community! Every morning we have a morning meeting where we greet each other, share with each other, and do a fun activity that helps us build relationships with each other. At the end of the meeting we read the morning message together. We love the morning meeting because it gives everyone a chance to start the day with a warm welcome and a way to connect with each other and what we’ll be learning during the day.
We also love to do read alouds in 1K! We have started the year off with Kevin Henkes. He has written a lot of books about being a kid and going to school. The kids love listening to his stories and connecting with the characters.
Another book that we’ve featured this week is The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn. This is a great book to read at the beginning of the school year. It’s all about Chester the Raccoon going off to school for the first time and all the different feelings he has about it. We did a little activity about our own feelings about going to school this year. It was a great way to open the discussion about feelings in general and how it’s OK to have different feelings.
We’ve gotten off to a great start and we’re all very excited about all the fun and learning to come! Stay tuned for more updates!
